    Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Reception! We are all excited to be starting a new school year and welcoming your child to their new class, R1 EWS.

Here is some information to help them settle in and make sure they are ready to learn.

Adults in our class: In our class we have Mrs Williams Shaw, the class teacher and Mrs Campbell, Mrs Hartup, Mrs George and Miss Deaton, our teaching assistants. We will all be working in the Reception classroom with Mrs Martin, Mrs Iddon, Mrs Ansell and Miss Dixon as well.

PE days: Our PE days are Monday and Friday, so please make sure your child has their kit in school all week. The children will be getting changed in school for their PE lessons so please make sure that their clothes and PE kit are named.

Daily Reading: As your child settles into school, they will start to bring reading books home each week. We will hold a Reading Meeting for parents at 2.45 on Thursday 18th September to explain this to you. The meeting will end ready for you to collect the children at 3.15. This is an important meeting so please let us know if you can’t attend. We can make other arrangements with you, so that you are ready to support your child with their phonics learning at home.

Homework: We will be sending home some nursey rhyme packs with rhymes to say and learn and fun activities to complete with your child. We will also send some information about letter formation so that you can help your child to practise this at home. Homework will be sent on Fridays and needs to be returned by the following Wednesday please.

Curriculum: A curriculum sheet will be sent home electronically next week and this will also be available on the school website.

Medical: If your child requires any medication in school, such as an inhaler, please make sure it is in school as soon as possible. If they have any medication that is new, you will need to fill in a form at the school office.

Attendance: It is crucial that your child is in school every day to ensure they do not miss important and exciting learning. Please also make sure that your child is in class for 8.50am and is collected promptly at 3.20pm. In the reception class, children work on phonics every morning and repeated late arrival means that they miss key learning needed to support their development in reading and writing.

Behaviour: If your child has shown excellent behaviour for learning they will be rewarded with a dojo. If there has been an incident where your child has had to discuss their behaviour with another adult, we will let you know.

We are looking forward to getting to know you and your child better, so please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions or concerns.

    Yours sincerely

    Mrs Williams Shaw
