    Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Year 2! We are all excited to be starting a new school year and welcoming your child to their new class. Here is some information to help them settle in and make sure they are ready to learn.

Adults in our class: In our class we have Mrs Root, the class teacher and Mrs Buckel our teaching assistant.

PE days: Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday, so please make sure your child has their kit in school on these days. The children will be getting changed in school for their PE lessons so please make sure that their clothes are named.

Daily Reading: New reading books and brainboxes will be sent home this week. Please listen to your child read their Little Wandle book or share a book together for ten minutes each day. This can be the book that we send home to read for pleasure or a book that your child enjoys reading from home. Regular reading is the key to help your child build up confidence and fluency and we expect you to support with this at home every day. Please sign your child’s brainbox when you have read with them.

Homework: Maths homework will be set from next week on My Maths. We will go through this in class next week and send home information to explain how to complete this. Homework will be set on Fridays and needs to be completed by the following Wednesday please.

Curriculum Lessons: A curriculum sheet will be sent home electronically next week and will also be available on the school website.

Medical: If your child requires any medication in school, such as an inhaler, please make sure it is in school as soon as possible. If they have any medication that is new, you will need to fill in a form at the school office.

Attendance: It is crucial that your child is in school every day to ensure they do not miss important and exciting learning. Please also make sure that your child is in class for 8.50am and is collected promptly at 3.20pm. In KS1, children work on phonics every morning and repeated late arrival means that they miss key learning needed to support their development in reading and writing.

Behaviour: If your child has shown excellent behaviour and moved up to the star on the class behaviour chart they will receive 3 dojos. If there are concerns with their behaviour, parents will be contacted.

We are looking forward to getting to know you and your child better, so please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

    Yours sincerely

    Mrs Root
